The CRMS Parent Network: A Vehicle for Active Involvement
CRMS and Parents—A Powerful Team
“To be successful, every independent school needs and expects the cooperation of its parents, who must understand and embrace the school’s mission, share its core values, and fully support its curriculum, faculty and staff. When joined by a common set of beliefs and purposes, the independent school and its parents form a powerful team with far-reaching positive effects on children and the entire school community.”
—Association of Maryland Independent Schools
The Colorado Rocky Mountain School Parent Network is the vehicle that parents can use to get involved. The Parent Network is our parent association which includes every parent or guardian of a current CRMS student. The Parent Network strives to involve parents in meaningful ways to best support the educational experience of every student at CRMS. We expect that all parents, boarding and day, will become an active part of their child’s CRMS experience. From volunteer help to philanthropic efforts, sharing special talents, to hosting international students and admissions receptions, our parents are highly valued and actively involved members of our community.
Parent Network Mission and Goals
Parent Network Mission
The Parent Network, joined by a common set of beliefs and purposes, supports the school mission by promoting communication, education, philanthropy, volunteerism, and community.
Parent Network Goals
1. Be familiar with and support school policies and programs.
2. Provide a volunteer base to support school activities.
3. Advocate a strong educational experience for students.
4. Support the philanthropic activities that enrich the school.
Parent Network Structure
The Parent Network is headed by a Chairperson and a Parent Representative to the Board of Trustees who guide the group throughout the course of the year. Other leadership roles include the Silent Auction chairperson and the Faculty/Staff Appreciation committee head.
Parent Network Activities
Activities supported by the Parent Network in addition to special events and volunteering include:
- Four annual Parent Network meetings/socials: include two evenings at the Head of School’s house
- Parent Education Opportunities: parents learn the latest in College Counseling and Parenting workshops
- Hello-a-thon – Parent-to-Parent Outreach: connect with fellow parents to see how things are going for their families at CRMS
- Faculty/Staff Appreciation gifts: an expression of our gratitude
- Parent Project: manual labor project for the betterment of the campus
- Volunteer: click here (link to Parent Volunteer Opportunities page) to view a list of volunteer opportunities
Parent Philanthropy
Parent support is critical to the Colorado Rocky Mountain School Annual Fund and the upcoming Capital Campaign (which will raise funds to build two new dormatories). Tuition covers only 70% of the cost of providing a CRMS education, so parent financial support is essential.
