New Music Building Hits All The Right Notes
With over one third of the student body participating in our music program and up to 20 students performing in each of our Coffee House concerts, the new music building will be much appreciated and receive plenty of use by providing musical groups with additional practice, rehearsal, and performance space.
With completion set for 2011, the approximately 1,000-square-foot rehearsal space will be adjacent to the Barn (where the existing music classes are held) and house acoustic features throughout, including non-parallel walls for better sound, strategically placed absorptive material, and higher ceilings. A recording booth and control room will also occupy the space, and a separate area will be constructed for storing instrument cases, student materials, and other musical equipment.
As with all of the new buildings on the CRMS campus, the music building will be geared toward being eco-friendly with features including a passive-solar design.
The Music Program at CRMS consists of Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced Music classes. Students progress through these classes learning the fundamentals of music, advanced music theory, analysis, improvisation, and composition. They learn to play classical music, contemporary music from bluegrass, folk, rock, and hip-hop to jazz, reggae, and alternative music in preparation for live performance.
