Intermediate and Advanced ESL Course Offerings

Colorado Rocky Mountain School offers intermediate and advanced level ESL Courses. These courses come with an additional fee of $1500/course.

ESL English Intermediate
International students focus on developing their grammar, vocabulary, and writing skills as well as their literary-analysis skills needed for mainstream study through reading several short stories and novels. Students prepare for the TOEFL examination and learn the academic habits of mind needed to excel in American classroom culture.

Literature and Composition

This course is designed to prepare international students for immersion in upper-level English classes. Through texts and writing techniques of increased difficulty, this course helps scaffold student development in literary analysis and prepares students for standardized tests that are essential for college admission.

ESL History Intermediate
International students examine American customs, government, and history. Students develop reading, writing, and research skills and complete two major research papers. Students also develop discussion, presentation, and debating skills, which enable them to better participate in all of their classes.

Foundations of Western Civilization
This course prepares students for succeeding in upper level history courses. The curriculum connects to topics covered in Literature and Composition. Through the study of Western civilization, students continue to develop their reading, writing, and speaking skills and begin to apply their background knowledge to historical events, moral debates, and geo-political issues.

Residential Host Stay Program

CRMS offers an on-campus host stay program for students needing accommodations for the Thanksgiving and Spring Breaks. (Note that this program will not be available for Winter Break. All students need to make their own arrangements to depart campus for the Winter Break.) The program is a mix of culture, fun, and TOEFL test preparation. All students will stay on-campus in dorms and the program will be run by two CRMS faculty members. For more details on the program and to see a sample schedule of events, click here.
